If you read the previous post in this series, you saw that I shared my “recipe for success” which I have inherited from my mentors. For the next several posts in this series, I’ll share with you about why you need each ingredient and practical steps you can take to incorporate them into your own life and business.

Most likely, you are reading this post because you understand how important it is to talk and think about success, so that you can keep learning and moving forward in your own success journey. Well, just as it is important to understand success, it is also important to have an ongoing conversation about its opposite, the BIG F:

F.A.I.L.U.R.E.

In the kitchen, if your dish did not come out as expected, you can work backwards to deconstruct the failed recipe (or rather your failed execution of a good recipe). When you do this, it helps you to understand what you can do to improve your process and create a great outcome the next time around. I will tell you a story about how I have used this in my life, in a specific area, to create success on purpose. I will give you a specific example of using what you see and hear to help you create success.

My example is a story about my personal life, and is totally relevant here, so just stay with me, okay? Here is my back story:

This week they’ve posted a great blog article on the topic of The American Dream, and here is my response (this was way too long just to post in their comments section):

It’s amazing that you’re writing on this topic because I’ve been thinking and praying about this a lot more lately than ever before.

For the past several years, our family has been learning (the hard way) the balance between being entrenched in our comfort zone to the point where we exclude God’s purpose and plan based on our fear of the unknown or unfamiliar vs. walking in His Divine blessings and letting go of control so that He can take us down whatever path/s He decides so He can use our giftings and talents to bless those He loves who are in those places that He needs us to be in.

Truly, I am so into His Global Dream for the world according to Genesis 12:2-3 and John 3:16. This has led me to just let go of the pursuit of The American Dream (or at least not let go of pursuing it in the same way) because I feel that my pursuit of it in the past led me down a path of comfort/ complacency that kept me from wanting to commit to following God’s dream for those He loves who are in this world and need our/my help.

I am so glad that you’ve brought up this topic, and look forward to seeing some great discussion within our Allied Women community about this during this week.

This is definitely one of the best business books by women entrepreneurs that I have ever read BECAUSE I know and can see that they are giving the truth here. Read on to see why I say this.

The GlamourLESS Side of Entrepreneurship: What They Didn’t Tell You About Being A Woman In Business

I am so glad that Cheryl Wood put this phenomenal anthology together because I know the priceless value that her own voice brings to the conversation of entrepreneurial success. (She was our keynote speaker for our very first annual Atlanta networking event for WAHMs WIN.) Now I can see her voice magnified x25 to the infinite power. These women, some of whose work I’m already familiar with, like Lucinda Cross and Katrina Harrell, are the real deal. I’m not trying to be cliche, I’m serious.

Now that I own one book with wisdom from all of them plus many others, WOW!

I love how Cheryl breaks down the problem she experienced of having false expectations about entrepreneurship before she started and how she uses her own and others stories to help us now avoid this.

This topic has been discussed on our podcast for WAHMs WIN since we launched it last summer. We have been doing the same, telling the real stories of real entrepreneurs who don’t have anything to gain back from our audience. It’s so important for people who are getting started to hear the truth and to see the real lives of the folks they’re learning from so that they can know what to really expect.

Cheryl’s list of 8 glamourless truths is like a treasure trove of wisdom, and that’s just the first chapter of the book!!

Lucinda’s creative way of telling her story includes a list of mistakes/wrong-thinking contrasted with wisdom nuggets that you really need to pay attention to. She breaks down the mindset that almost destroyed her dream of being a work-at-home mom. And she breaks down how she has been able to overcome and move forward.

Each of the ladies in this book shares their own voice of truth, and together that makes this book one of the most valuable that I’ve ever possessed, and I’m grateful to have access to this wisdom. Definitely recommend this book.
